ScreenshotPrivacy for macOS · updated 6 September 2026

Summary

We never receive your screenshots, the text in them, or the values the app finds. There is no account, no cloud and no telemetry. The app hides and exports with networking turned off.

Who is responsible

What the app does

Captures the screen when you ask, through the keyboard shortcut or the menu bar item.

Recognises the text in that capture using macOS's own engine, on your computer.

Looks for Social Security numbers, CPF, CNPJ, cards, emails, phone numbers and credentials in that text.

Replaces the pixels of those areas with bars, irreversibly.

Puts the result on your clipboard, or saves it where you choose.

None of those steps involves the network.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no sign-up, no login, no user identifier, no usage analytics, no crash reporting and no telemetry of any kind.

The one thing that uses the network

A Pro subscription is bought through the App Store, using the Apple account already on your Mac. The purchase is conducted by Apple; we receive no identifier, no email and no purchase history, and the app stores a single yes-or-no about whether a subscription is active.

No capture, recognised text or detected value is ever part of that, or of anything else that touches the network.

What is stored, and where

Your preferences — background, frame, badge, your own rules — sit in a file inside the app’s sandboxed area, on your Mac.

The capture being edited exists only in memory while the window is open. Close it and it is gone.

Images you save go where you told them to, and they are yours.

Deleting the app removes the sandboxed area and the preferences with it.

System permissions

macOS requires Screen Recording permission for any app to capture what is on screen. ScreenshotPrivacy uses it only at the moment you ask for a capture. There is no continuous, background or automatic capture.

Granting that permission to the operating system is not consent and not a legal basis for processing whatever personal data appears in your captures. That responsibility belongs to whoever processes it.

Third parties

None. The app integrates no analytics, advertising, tracking or external processing service, and the component that captures and detects has no dependency with any network capability.

Limits you should know

Person names, addresses and health information are not detected in this version.

Automatic detection can miss. Check the image before you share it.

This tool reduces risk. It does not replace deciding your purpose, your legal basis, your retention policy, or the other duties that belong to whoever handles personal data.
