Good to know before you capture.
Do my screenshots ever leave my Mac?
Not for processing. Capture, text recognition, and redaction happen locally, including when you are offline. The app has no account or telemetry. Optional Pro purchases are handled separately by Apple.
What does it detect automatically?
Email addresses, phone numbers, payment cards, US Social Security numbers, Brazilian CPF and CNPJ, and supported credential patterns. Names, addresses, and health information are not detected in this version. You can add manual redaction bars during review.
Can someone undo the redaction?
The covered pixels are replaced in the exported image. They are not stored under a removable layer. Information you leave uncovered, or deliberately preserve with partial masking, stays visible.
Is the free version actually useful?
Yes. Free includes built-in detection, full redaction, manual review, and visual finishing. Exports include a QR badge. Pro lets you remove the badge, create and edit custom rules, and choose partial masking.
Can I use it on Windows?
Windows is coming soon. The first release is for Macs running macOS 13 or later, with the interface available in English and Brazilian Portuguese.
Do I still need to review my screenshots?
Yes. Automatic detection can miss information. Always review before sharing and cover anything else manually. ScreenshotPrivacy helps reduce exposure; it does not certify compliance or replace your responsibilities when handling personal data.
